Former Springfield special education teacher and principal create award for students attending alternative programs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A previous distinctive education and learning trainer and a principal have teamed up to make an award that would advantage pupils who show up at substitute courses in Springfield General public Faculties.

It is termed the ‘Fresh Begin Award,’ and it was made by Dr. Latoya Bosworth and Principal Sharonda Hector, each from the Springfield General public Faculty program. Dr. Bosworth says the award is to honor the memory of Camry Starks, a student of hers in choice programming who was murdered final calendar year.

Bosworth states that pupils who go to choice applications normally do not go on to 4-yr faculties and immediately after graduation is with no means and assistance, which could guide to minimal-wage work, restricted housing, and substantial imprisonment costs.

She states the objective is to end the generational pattern and enable assist these students.

“So the Contemporary Start Award is hoping to enable college students shift out, move on, and transfer smarter.
