New college degree programs to help close labour gaps

Ontario colleges have been provided leave to produce new diploma courses that will prepare persons in industries with worker shortages, including the vehicle and engineering sectors.

On April 11, the province announced faculties will be invited to build a few-12 months and 4-12 months diploma courses in “key sectors to deal with gaps in the province’s labour desires.”

Exclusively it desires “highly experienced engineering employees in the health care, digital, data, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity and course of action automation sectors,” as effectively as folks who can make electric powered autos, roads, highways, hospitals, and prolonged-time period care houses.

Expansion of the Ontario school programming was first set ahead in October with the Supporting Individuals and Business Act, 2021.

The province expects the new 3-12 months and four-year school degree method to be readily available to learners starting off in the tumble of 2023.
